Biography
Pedro Kominik is constantly performing as a singer in many of Mexico City’s most distinguished venues, ranging from the Palacio de Bellas Artes and the Centro Cultural Bicentenario, to the foremost jazz and cabaret clubs in the inner city. He just finished his sixth studio album with a symphonic orchestra, which was launched in September 2015 with a gala at the Teatro de la Ciudad Esperanza Iris concert hall, where the National Culture and Arts Council (CONACULTA), the National Fine Arts Institute (INBA), the National Theatre Coordination (CNT) and the Culture Ministry of Mexico City celebrated his first 25 years of artistic achievements.
His albums have topped the charts of world music sales for over 14 weeks each at nationwide stores such as Mix Up, Gandhi and Educal shops at museums all over the country. They have become key titles within the alternative music scene in Mexico, containing iconic songs of the 30’s, 40’s and 50's from France, Germany, the United States and Latin America, as well as Mexican folk music from the early 1900’s. As a musician, he’s noted for achieving an eclectic fusion that navigates through jazz, classical music, cabaret and world music, creating a very personal sound hand in hand with an ethereal and luscious voice.
His work onstage spans over 50 productions of theater, opera and cabaret, as well as television, radio and films.
He has been part of cutting-edge theatre performances like Novo en el Mictlán, where he acted and sang at the Dramafest 2016; Microteatro, where he played Federico García Lorca and directed the show. He starred in the production for the Festival de la Ciudad de México of the controversial play El Mural, directed by José Antonio Cordero, to critical acclaim. 2010 is the year in which the musical “Las Tandas del Centenario” opens, produced by CONACULTA, INBA and FONCA where he performed the starring role and directed the production; this hit show was launched under the sponsorship of the National Centennial and Bicentennial 2010 Celebration, and earned the award for Best Musical from the Theater Journalist’s Association (APT) in 2011. Within political theater, he's done outstanding performances in the ground-breaking “La Marta del Zorro” and the landmark music hall Teatro Blanquita.
Enjoying cabaret immensely, he has shared the stage with the best: Astrid Hadad, Isela Vega, Susana Zabaleta, Regina Orozco, Darío T. Pie, Liliana Felipe and Jesusa Rodríguez, and the ensemble Las Reinas Chulas, who have been essential to this genre. He has written, directed and played starring roles in many cabaret shows, which have made him a distinctive presence in this discipline for over the last eighteen years.
On screen, he’s starred as a leading actor and talk-show host on television’s prime time: El Noticiero con Joaquín López-Dóriga, on the morning news En Contraste with Adela Micha, both at Televisa’s channel 2, Punto de Partida with Denise Maerker and Nueva Visión with Carlos Loret de Mola on channel 4; El Rotativo at Channel 22, and El Emergente as well as Séptimo Día at CNI Channel 40.
